5G Smartphone Shipments in China Reach 151 Million Units in Q2 2021

The existence of a 5G smartphone that is currently busy seems to be very attractive to the smartphone market in China. This is because market data from the Chinese Academy of Information and Communication Technology recently reported that the total shipments of mobile phones in the Chinese market reached 203 million units from January to July this year. This is an increase from year to year, which totals 15.6%.

Based on the Cellular team's report quoted from Gizchina, of the 203 million units of mobile phones shipped to China, 151 million units were 5G smartphones. This means that 74.3% of the total smartphone shipments in the first seven months of this year were 5G smartphones.

Currently, China's 5G mobile phone shipments have cumulatively reached 327 million units. This means that more than 300 million 5G smartphones have been shipped in the last two years. Of course, 5G smartphones are trendy in China, and their popularity is growing.

Based on its statistics, 74.3% of smartphone shipments show that three are 5G devices in every four smartphones. In July this year, a total of 28.676 million mobile phones were shipped to the Chinese market, which is a 28% year-on-year increase.

Of these, 22.834 million units are 5G smartphones, which is 79.6% of the total. This month alone, 26 new smartphones have entered the Chinese market. Of this number, 11 models already support 5G connectivity.

Regarding brand composition, among the 28.676 million units shipped in July 2021, Chinese mobile phone brands accounted for 90.3%. The rest, other brands globally, accounted for 9.7%. This increase is likely due to the highly competitive Chinese smartphone market, and non-Chinese companies are not very interested in this market.
